Sarina simoom was founded in 1995 by Jennifer Herbst in the Washington D.C. area, where the first album, (now out of print) Sarina Won, was recorded that same year. Jennifer moved to Colorado in 1997, and reconvened the band with mostly new members in 1998. The band enjoyed more success and played many venues including the Bluebird and Gothic theaters in Denver. They released their second album, Thread Bone Bare, in 2000, (Available for download at www.myspace.com/sarinasimoom, or for purchase at www.cdbaby.com). The band split in 2003 while Jennifer attended graduate school in philosophy, and got back together in 2007. Todd Bills has been playing drums with Jennifer since she moved to Colorado in 1997. Wes Magyar has joined with them on the bass since 2007.  Their new 5 song E.P. The Fawn is available for download at itunes and also www.myspace.com/sarinasimoom.

“(Jenna) Herbst is simply a luminous talent — a concise player whose elastic vocal style recalls Kate Bush, a more melodic Kristin Hersh and the elusive sirens of all those Greek myths. And though Herbst occupied a large portion of the spotlight at last week’s show, the band’s wisely understated, harmonic arrangements were a simple, sensual and sensory treat. ” ….. Laura Bond, Westword Magazine, November 11, 1999.

A review of Sarina Simoom from THE ONION: “Sarina Simoom is one of the area’s most interesting new groups, led by former Twilight Motel violinist Jenna Herbst. Herbst’s giddy vocal acrobatics readily draw comparisons to Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins, and the largely acoustic music owes much to that gently textured 4AD feel.”
